Class Q Barn Conversion Appeal - Great Bourton, Cherwell

Following refusal of a Class Q (b) barn conversion scheme in July 2023, the Planning Inspectorate allowed the subsequent appeal submitted by CTPL on behalf of clients in March 2024. The Inspector agreed with CTPL’s assessment - supported by appeal precedents in Cherwell and elsewhere in the UK - that the proposed works would not be so significant as to amount to rebuilding but rather constitute a conversion. Accordingly, the Inspector accepted that the proposed works would be reasonably necessary for the barn to function as a house and that the limitation in Class Q.1.(i) of the GPDO would be met so allowed the appeal.
